Titanic
“The one of 3 sister ships was the Titanic, the beginning meaning of the Titanic and her sister ships Olympic and Britannic were built to compete with the ocean liners Lusitania and Mauretania.” (Titanic Passengers) Cunard White Star Line owned the ships, which had made the decision not to attempt to compete on speed but to build the ship larger, more trustable and more luxurious than the others they were competing against.
After three long years of building the Titanic, the ship was finished and ready to set sail in the Atlantic Ocean on the maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. By the time of fifth day of the voyage journey, Titanic was making nice progress across the Atlantic Ocean. Earlier in the day Captain Edward Smith had planned out a new route because hearing of other reports of ice from other ship liners, there were a lot of different spottings from many ship lines that day of ice in the Titanic 's path course. On the night of Sunday April 14 1912, the sea was flat and still, the sky was dark but clear and there was no moon, and the temperature was dropping down fast towards freezing. In the conditions of weather, the ice in the sea was very hard to spot.
The people looking out fired the alarm and called the bridge saying that there was a Iceberg, right ahead. The warning came aloud too late to miss hitting the iceberg and Titanic struck it less than 40 seconds after the ship hit the iceberg it tore several holes on the long side of the Titanic ship. “Upon inspecting the damage, Titanic 's chief naval architect Thomas Andrews said to Captain Smith that the ship would certainly sink within an hour and to get onto lifeboats.
