Hypothesis: Based on the location and data from abiotic and biotic organisms, sites with a poor water flow will have more polluted water. Methods: To test this hypothesis, several groups scattered along the lagoon to test the biotic and abiotic characteristics. Each group was stationed at different lengths along the lagoon. The locations for the groups ranged from 0 yards away from the opening of the lagoon to 200 yards away from the opening of the lagoon. The group that I was in was 150 yards away where we tested for the biotic and abiotic characteristics. For biotic testing, the group collected macroinvertebrates in order to identify the macroinvertebrates living in the lagoon. To collect the macroinvertebrates, a group member went to three different spot along the water and started kicking the dirt. By kicking the dirt, it would separate the macroinvertebrates from their habitat. After …show more content…

For the dissolved oxygen, a titration was used to find the dissolved oxygen in the lagoon. For the phosphate and nitrate testing, a colorimetric was used in order to find the amount of phosphate and nitrate in the water. The pH test consisted of using three different pH strips to find the pH of the water. This was done by dipping the strips into the lagoon water. For the temperature test, a thermometer was used to measure the temperature of the water in celsius. The thermometer was placed in three different spots in the lagoon to measure the temperature of the water. The water flow test consisted of using a tennis ball, stopwatch, and measuring tape. A ball was placed and time to see how much time it would take for it to move a certain distance. The turbidity test consisted of using a turbidity tube. By filling the tube with lagoon water, the group would dump water out of the tube until a group member can clearly see the bottom of the
