Interdisciplinarity. Academic Rigor. Leadership. These are the three pillars of the TCNJ Honors Program, but there is so much beyond each of these that cannot be ignored. Not only do I feel that I demonstrate each of these pillars, but I also demonstrate the characteristics hidden beyond their power.
When studying a person’s Interdisciplinarity, it’s ideal to look for how well they take seemingly unrelated subjects and integrate them to create a better understanding of the problem at hand. At TCNJ, I will be studying mechanical engineering. This program will help me apply my interdisciplinarity into the real world. As a mechanical engineer, it is my job to use my engineering capabilities to solve problems for a consumer, utilizing both my interpersonal skills and scientific skills to create or mend a product that is as useful and flawless as possible. My studies at TCNJ will help me build upon these interdisciplinary skills so that I can reach this point. Until then, I plan to enhance the Honors

I grew up on a softball field, always cheering on teammates, helping them when they’re struggling. After school, I’m president and vice-president of several clubs, captains of others. I know how to be in charge because I’ve also been on the sidelines, observing other leaders, learning the pros and cons of their methods. Leadership is about more than delivering orders. Leadership is about knowing when to listen and how to be a team player. In the classroom, my leadership skills will help me to work well with other students and our professors. I will be willing to listen to other’s ideas because I know that their observations will be different than mine. I will be willing to sacrifice my time in order to help a fellow student understand better. The same guidelines go for the Honors Program.
