“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment” -Ralph Waldo Emerson. Being someone that doesn’t let themselves be controlled by other people in which they become their own-self would be an achievement. In the story, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, a fireman named Guy Montag, tries to be someone different than his society. Montag’s main job is to burn houses that have illegal books in them, but after he met a girl named Clarisse, his mindset changes. His wife Mildred who tends to be like the rest of the society, has no communication with him. Individuals have to accept you for who you are and if being yourself makes you happy then do it. Montag didn’t realize that he wasn’t happy until Clarisse had told him but he denied it. When I was in seventh grade I had gone to a middle school called Houston. It’s a very small school and everyone knew each other. When I first started middle school, I had only knew my friends from elementary school. Most of my friends became friends with the other girls there and I had thought that they were going to become my friends too but instead they weren’t. In order for me to fit in I would have to have a phone,which i didn’t have, have nice clothes, being able to dress nice and go to the classes that they did. I would follow them and try to do most of the things that they would do in order for them to accept me. Well I realized that throughout the two years that I was there that I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t myself because everything that I liked, for example music, they didn’t like it. It was until i entered high school that I embraced who I am and I came to found out that there are people that like the same things as me. Most of the girls that I used to try to be friends with I don’t talk to them anymore. If I would’ve knew that following trends and going with society wasn’t going to make me happy, I would have changed before I entered high school. In Fahrenheit 451 Clarisse was a girl that didn’t care what society said about her because she was herself and different from everyone else. Montag was a man that had a regular routine and didn’t realize that he wasn’t himself. Well when I was in middle school, I wasn’t myself which made me realize that I wasn’t happy of who I was. People try to be like everyone else so they can be normal and fit in. They don’t realize that going along with society won’t make them who they are. What if people start to like who you are and they start to go along with you? Just remember that they could like the same things as you but they are their own type of
