For my To Kill A Mocking Bird project I did the 10-15 aphorisms. I think that I deserve a A- for my project. My rationale for this project was to learn and understand more about the aphorisms in the book. The steps I took to complete this project was look over the book and find my favorite aphorisms. One of my favorite aphorisms that Atticus said is "Before I can live with other folks I 've got to live with myself.
The theme of this novel is "Not everything is the way you predict it is". I believe this thematic statement suits the story because throughout the book there are lots of surprises, and most situations don't go the way people predict they will. For example, Aunt Alexandra was first seen as mean, according to her attitude towards Scout. At the end of the book Aunt Alexandra hands Scout her overalls, as mentioned in the story, "the garments she most despised." Because she always wanted Scout to be a lady and wear dresses.
In the argument between Mr.Gilmer and Atticus In to kill a mockingbird about Tom Robinson being found guilty for raping Mayella. There was impressive work of rhetorical analysis (Logos, Pathos, and Ethos). This argument takes place in a courthouse in Maycomb which if packed with the people of Maycomb. The argument between Atticus and Mr.Gilmer was about Tom Robinson to find out if he truly raped and abused Mayella. In the argument between them both used Logos, Ethos, and Pathos.
Allusions Music is very important in the world and not only can it be listened to for enjoyment, but also created by one as a hobby. Mockingbirds make beautiful music to listen to and a Jew’s harp is an instrument that one can use to play songs. Harper Lee uses both of these musical components in To Kill A Mockingbird with a deeper meaning to give the reader more of an understanding to what is happening. Harper Lee uses the many allusions in her novel including mockingbirds and Jew’s Harp.
Walt Whitman shows a connection between the senses and science in his poem, “When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer, by expressing his thoughts of the astronomers class and his thoughts when he experiences the stars for himself.” The connection begins after Whitman first starts to discuss the astronomer’s lecture, stating “I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide and measure them” (Whitman 3), however he later writes, “I became tired and sick” (Whitman 6). In To “Kill A Mockingbird” Atticus Finch is faced with a hostile racist jury during the case of State of Alabama v Thomas Robinson, this court case in particular has stood out to me because I am going be faced with a similar hostile jury soon; I will be analyzing the closing argument made by Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird to further prepare. To Kill A Mockingbird Literary Analysis Throughout To Kill A MockingBird, by Harper Lee there are many acts of courage. This is shown in Atticus Finch, Jem Finch, and Boo Radley. Atticus shows the most courage in the book but all three of these characters show true courage in some way, shape, or form. Boo Radley showed a lot of courage, but he was not in the storyline as much as Atticus. Throughout To Kill A Mockingbird, courage is defined as standing up for people and doing what’s right.
Even in a society that, overall, is diverse, people with similar ideas and experiences tend to congregate in small groups, where they are comfortable. It is much easier to remain in homogenous groups, among those who understand each other. When different groups combine, many different life experiences and points of view will be present and will potentially clash. Misunderstanding is bound to occur in some form when individuals of different backgrounds interact. When misunderstandings occur, people tend to respond with violence, fear, or stereotyping.
