I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The previous chapters talk about Scout participating in a play and was suppose to dress like a piece of ham. When the play was over Jem and Scout decided to walk home. As they walked home they heard a strange noise that was coming towards them . It turns out that it was Bob Ewell who was going to kill Atticus’ children, as a revenge for Atticus defending Tom Robinson during court. As Mr. Ewell tried to attack Jem and Scout, someone came along and stopped him. The strange human that Schout could not recognize stepped in and stopped Bob Ewell. After fighting, Jem Finch got hurt and broke parts of his bodies. The strange man took Jem home with Scout along. Not until they got home did Scout realize …show more content…

Many characters walk in each other's shoes to realize why they do what they do. A character that walked in someone else’s shoes to most was Mr. Heck to Atticus. After the scary night that Jem and Scout went through, Atticus tries to prove that Jem was the one who killed Mr. Ewell. First of all, as Mr.Heck and Atticus tried to figure out why Mr. Ewell was dead, Atticus accused his own son of doing it. One way to prove this is by “Mr. Finch, do you think Jem Killed Bob Ewell? Do You think that?” Asked Mr. Tate” (Lee 365). Atticus responding “You heard what Scout said, there’s no doubt about it. She said Jem got up and yanked him off her--he probably got hold of Ewell’s knife somehow in the dark… we’ll find out tomorrow” (Lee 365). This shows that when Scout was explaining what had happened that night, Atticus predicted that the only one who would protect Scout from Mr. Ewell was Jem, but Mr. Heck knows that a child like him, kind and loving would never do that. Another reason is Mr. Heck knows the county better than anyone and he knows Jem did not kill a grown up man. Mr. Heck tried to walk in Atticus’ shoes but could not figure out why he would accuse his son like that. A way to prove this is Mr. Heck saying “Atticus I’ve been here my whole life...I knew what happened in this town before I was even born” (Lee 361). Following this, Mr. Heck is a hundred percent sure that it was not Jem who killed Bob Ewell. He …show more content…

He knows that even though Jem tried to protect Scout from anybody, he would not take a risk and kill another human being. Mr. Heck was not the only one that tried to walk in someone else’s shoes, Scout also tried to walk in Arthur “Boo” Radley’s shoes. One way that Scout tries to walk in his shoes is by seeing that Boo Radley is actually a nice guy who save her and Jem’s life. She discovers that all along, he was the only one that took care the her when her father was not around. People realized that Mr. Boo Radley was protagonist of the story and the antagonist was Mr. Ewell. Another way is her realizing that he was the one who put the gifts in the tree for Jem and Scout to have. He was trying to prove to the children that w\he was not scary, he just did not like to go outdoors and talk to people. Boo was trying to show them he was not mean and rude like the rumors that were spread around about him. Last reason on why Scout is walking in Boo’s shoes is, she realized that all he wanted was for them to notice him a nice guy who stays inside because he does not want any interaction with people in that town. A quote from the book that shows this is “I wondered how many times Jem and I had made this journey, but I entered the Radley front gate for the second time in my life. Boo and I walked up the steps to the porch. His fingers found the
