Everyday millions of people disdain others due to their appearance. They disregard the feelings of others, they disregard the unequal circumstances of others, and they disregard the fact that many are suffering. This quote has helped me realize that even though racism tends to take part in our daily lives, it causes us to lose our humanity because it is neglected where we aren’t able to view the main picture. For example, when Atticus explained the meaning of the word nigger-lover to Scout, he mentioned it being a term without significance in which people use it, considering that someone prefers African Americans over themselves. There is no doubt that Atticus acknowledges everyone regardless of their religion, gender, and or race, due to his beliefs, which is why he doesn’t allow the judgments of others prevent him from continuing forth with his life. Atticus isn’t a mindless sheep who follows the herd, but rather creates his own path, without having the conscious of commiting a mistake. After Tom Robinson was pleaded guilty, Jem thought otherwise and announced that it wasn’t morally correct, but Atticus elucidated the situation to Jem, saying that in our world, men tend to lose sight of the situation where they aren’t able to be fair even if they tried.
