Throughout world history, racism has always been a major issue which is found to be more vital in certain regions than others. There are those collection of people who encourage this belief and those who assail the belief being-a superior race exist. In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, a book taking place in the 1900’s-an era in which racism was a matter of the utmost importance. Bob Ewell, the father of Mayella Ewell opposes Tom Robinson, and states that he is lying, no black man tells the truth. “Which, gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson’s skin, a lie I do not have to point out to you. You know the truth, and the truth is this: some Negroes lie, some Negroes are immoral, some Negro men are not to be trusted around women—black or white. Equality for allowing a black woman to be his maid and to undoubtedly admit to being a Niger lover even if everyone in Maycomb County saw it as a bad thing. Wisdom for stating that regardless of race, no individual has never done an immoral thing, no human being has never told a lie. Atticus Finch most importantly shows loyalty to his children by staying by their side and taking care of them, all by himself, he places himself in their shoes and notices that he is all they have left. Atticus Finch further exemplifies loyalty to the black society by depending on Calpurnia to take care of Jem and Scout when he is busy and by taking the role of being Tom’s Lawyer. Perhaps if we went out into the modern world with a color blind paradigm, we would stop prejudice, learn how to respect one another and be more loyal to each
