“ It is a sin to kill a mockingbird . “ A mockingbird wouldn’t hurt anything . A black man is convinced of the crime of helping a white man . A character who was betrayed as a horrible figure most of the book was a harmless , selfless person . Many mockingbirds die in this book , and as in reality , it is often the innocent that suffer . The focus for this paragraph is wisdom . “ Atticus says cheating a colored man is ten times worse than cheating a white man . “ ( pg 201, lee ) Atticus wants to jem to know that a black man will never win in court against a white man words . He wants them to know that the world is cruel and harsh it doesn’t treat them like babies . It means he wants them to do the right thing . Respect is demonstrated because he is well respected in the town and he shows the same respect and manners . “ if i didn’t take this case I ask you or jem to mind me anymore . “ ( pg. 75 , Lee ) Atticus is telling scout that he simply has to take the case because he’s Tom Robinson last hope . If he doesn’t take the case he couldn’t forgive himself or live with that regret . The thematic Statement for this paragraph is peace . Peace is demonstrated because he never likes to use violence nor harm . “ Atticus didn’t bat an eye , he took out his handkerchief and wiped his face . “ ( pg 217 , Lee ) He tells Jem that Bob Ewell had to take his anger out on somebody else , and he rather have that than taking it out on that house full of children . Atticus doesn’t respond with violence ; he walks away because he already uncovered the truth that Bob beats on Mayella and that was more than enough
