They will make things up and change the story to fit their expectations. During the time period of the book colored folks were not treated the same as the white people. They had separate churches and separate schools. Atticus was a white man who saw no one differently, he treated everyone the same and believed everyone should have the same rights. During the trial Atticus defended a black man who was accused of rape.
