In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. The title is very significant because mockingbirds are a symbol of peace and innocence. The title incinuaties that killing a mockingbird is actually the destroying of this innocence.

Mockingbirds are a symbol of peace. For example, on page 119 “Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.” In this quote the direct meaning is that Atticus doesnt want his children targeting innocent things, and that it is sinful to hurt something that hasnt done anything to you. To Kill a mockingbird means to destroy innocence which is wat happens in the book.In addition, “Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy…but sing their hearts out for us” (90). Just as mockingbirds dont hurt people and “only sing their hearts out for us” One example of Boo Radely. He does not harm anyone; instead, he leaves Jem and Scout presents, covers Scout with a blanket during the fire, and eventually saves the children from Bob Ewell. Despite his utter kindness he still succombs damage from an abusive father. Another example of this is the Trial of Tom Robinson. Tom was a hard working man who was generous with his gifts to the world. Tom unfortunately gets put on trial for the rape and beating of Mayella Ewell even though he did not do it.
