Determination Brings Success Robinson Crusoe is full of new events, characters, and surprises. These events portray his adventures and how he accomplished them. For example, “…I was surprised…seeing no less than five canoes all on shore together on my side the island,…”(Defoe 195). Robinson is astonished and is afraid of being eaten by the savages. However, he elucidates this fear by planting trees with his guns in them to make his “home” seem as a barricade. That way, he is safe and protected and he can attack them if he wants to. Mostly the latter part of the book is about how Robinson aids prisoners and how they get off the island. In this process, he gains two major friends. One is a servant, Friday, who later becomes a great friend. The other is a Spaniard, who he meets posterior to Friday and makes him the “captain”. …show more content…
Throughout the book, Robinson has faced many hardships on the island and he learned how to face them. He achieved mastery in all the skills that he needed to survive, and conclusively succeeded in getting off the island. Robinson has mastered the way of living and has achieved his goal of getting off the island. He achieved his goals after years of hard work and determination. Defoe writes “…I gave them the whole history of the place…all that was necessary to make them easy” (Defoe 268). Here, Robinson instructs the prisoners that were kept on the island how he mastered his skills on the island and how he survived because of that. Robinson wanted to master his fate and he did, which he got his reward after 28 years. Imagine 28 years on an island, doing all the necessities to survive: sowing, cutting, making a home and others. We cannot imagine how hard it is to live like that, and mastering everything you need to do. Robinson is one of a kind and I think that is what Defoe wanted to show the readers: Determination can get you
