Throughout the book there are many different sins that the people of Maycomb show. The whole town is full of everything wrong with society many of the characters represent how we are failing in life while a few others show what we are doing right. From racism to being rude to people who are different this book outs everything that we have done wrong with history and all the mockingbirds that we have killed. Racism is a misdeed that keeps on showing up in the book, Calpurnia keeps on showing Jem and Scout about how the African American society is treated. Calpurnia is one of the lucky ones that doesn't deal with all of the hate, but Atticus a white man gets a lot of hate for doing the right thing. The community is very judgmental and expect every generation to be identical to the last. “Thus the dicta No Crawford Minds His Own Business, Every Third Merriweather Is Morbid, The Truth Is Not in the Delafields, All the Bufords Walk Like That...”(Lee 150). Every single generation is exactly like the last. If you are the third Merriweather you are pressured by society to be exactly like your ancestors. This quote shows how every family must live up to what society thinks of them or down. Everyone has there place in society even if they like it or not everyone is expected to follow the path that their parents set them on. If your parent was insane you must be too. There is no decision in how they run their society. Some of the parents are so worried about their reputation that they don’t care about how they treat their children. One example of this is the Radley’s. The Radley’s treated Arthur so poorly, he needed help but they wouldn’t give it to him because no kid of Nathan’s would go to a place for the insane. This eventually led to the idea that Arthur turned into Boo Radley. Boo is a terrible monster and Nathan would most likely have been better sending him to get help.
