Harper Lee is a very famous Author who wrote the book to kill a Mockingbird. The title of the book mean to kill innocence because a Mockingbird is a symbol of innocence. The book takes place during the Great Depression in Maycomb Alabama. In her novel to kill a Mockingbird lee uses Tom, Atticus, Boo Radley as the human embodiment of the Mockingbird. First, Lee uses Tom as a human embodiment of the Mockingbird. Tom is a good heated black man who is falsely accused of rape. Tom passes the ewell house everyday to and from work a lot of times Mayella stops him and asks him to help her do all types of odd jobs he feels bad for her so he helps her because it seems like she has no help. Tom says, “where are the other children?” (Lee 191) she tells him that she sent them into town to get ice cream she saved her money for a whole year. This quote shows that she's willing to do that just to get alone with him. She starts touching on his legs and then she gets up and kisses him in the lips. He asks her to just let him go, after she wouldn't let up he to tries to get away and flips a chair that's the only thing disturbed in the house when he left. Even Tom’s white boss comes forward and says Tom is a good man. All the fight and evidence and good testimony and accusations and Tom was still convicted guilty even with Atticus fighting so hard for him.
