The Perspectives Perspective is an interesting thing. Perspective is how people view things differently. Such as war. Some people hate it because of all the violence and others believe it is needed and the world can’t work without it. Everyone has a different perspective on different things. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee tells the story of Scout’s childhood through character's perspective such as Scout, Jem, Dill, Atticus and Mrs. Merriweather to show how these people view the court case and their neighbor Mrs. Dubose.
Tom Robinson is a black man who was convicted of raping Mayella Ewell. Atticus Finch was Mr. Robinson’s lawyer. Atticus made it really obvious that Mr. Robinson wasn’t the one who beat up Mayella. Scout,

Dubose is a lady who lives a couple houses down the street from Jem and Scout. She makes nasty remarks about people as they walk by and talk behind their backs. Jem was really mad at what she said one time and destroyed her flowers. Mrs. Dubose makes Jem read to her every day for over a month to repay her for the destruction of her flowers. What Jem doesn't know is that she uses the reading time as a distraction from her morphine addiction. Each day she goes longer and longer without using the morphine. Jem is thinking she is evil and keeping him there to be mean when Atticus knows that she keeps him there to die free. Atticus told Jem “She died beholden to nothing and nobody. She was the bravest person I ever knew.” (112). Jem and scout see Mrs. Dubose as a horrible person while Atticus sees her as an amazing lady who had a strong will. “A lady? After all the things she said about you?” Jem says to Atticus (112). Jem is astonished when Atticus could still be so nice to Mrs. Dubose and call her lady after all the bad things she says about Atticus and his children. Jem as a kid couldn’t see that she had her own views and believings and Atticus respected that. Jem and Atticus’ perspectives are the opposite. Their perspectives are different because of the difference in knowledge. All Jem knows is that she is rude and aggressive to people walking by her porch.
