Not only does it serve as a symbol of innocence, it also serves as a symbol of injustice. In the characters Boo Radley and Tom Robinson it is shown. Atticus Finch stated "Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." This shows how characters like Boo Radley and Tom Robinson are like the mockingbird in a sense of innocence but still getting treated unfairly. Atticus Finch is not only courageous, which is shown when he defends Tom Robinson, but he also shows an immense amount of kindness throughout the novel. Kindness not only can make a person feel better, but it can make the people around them feel better. Atticus uses kindness in a sense of acceptance and equality, to show others that there is no difference in people.
