Race and Class define society and make it so society is separated losing itself in a world of connection. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, the novels shows and give people an understanding at the time. To begin, during the Tom Robinson trial, Tom was convicted as guilty due his class standing and his skin colour. Secondly, there are many families in Maycomb who stand in a different class than others like the Finches and Ewell’s stand on complete different classes. Finally, the separation in Maycomb are very harsh and can show an issue with race and class. The Jim Crow Laws makes people in the community to their own churches and make them live with people that are like them (with same skin colour). To begin, they have separate things for people like entrances, sitting, social status, and etc. However one particular thing is that they both have to go to different churches due to there skin colour. An example of this is when, Calpurnia takes the Jem and Scout to the church Calpurnia goes and one of the coloured folk said “quote”( ). Clearly at this time many of the coloured people were separated from society and were looked at bad way. They were treated unequally told to do things they were not suppose to due. Secondly, Maycomb is divided by colour. An example of this is when Mr. Ewell says that black people in the community my place look junk. Clearly, means that people in Maycomb were separated heavily based on their skin colour. Finally, the people in Maycomb are separated from their skin colour. An example of this when is, During the Tom Robinson trial the white people sit in the regular area and all the coloured people have to sit at a balcony. Clearly, this shows the reader a huge segregation in the community between white people and black
