In the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” Scout shows intelligence and curiosity character traits. Scout shows her intelligence by being able to read at a young age. Since most of the first graders can read scout is the only one who can. After Scout reads the alphabet and Miss Caroline was very surprised. “ she discovered that I was liberated and looked at me with more than faint distaste.
Her school teacher, Miss Caroline, tells her that she cannot read at home because her father doesn’t know how to teach. After confronting Atticus about her problem he says that “[People] never really understand a person until they consider things from his point of view” (39). This is a lesson about considering things from another person’s perspective, which is good for Scout to learn because she tends to judge people based on their looks or ways of doing things. This lesson will help her in real life because before she judges someone, considering their point of view will help her understand other people’s opinions. To end, Atticus teaches Scout a lesson about seeing things from others perspective.

In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, the author, Harper Lee, uses narration, dialogue, and setting to unravel Scout’s courageous, touchy, and rather inquisitive nature in an inventive and thrilling way. In order to adequately understand Scout as a character, the reader must look deeper to look into her mind rather than skimming the first layer. “‘You never really know a person until you consider things from his point of view...’” (Harper Lee 39).

To Start Off, Scout was explaining on how the final verdict of the jury & judge affected Jem & loss faith in the citizens of Maycomb. Scout says, “I shut my eyes. Judge Taylor was polling the jury: “Guilty...guilty...guilty...guilty…” I peeked at Jem: his hands were white from gripping the balcony rail, and his shoulders jerked as if each “guilty” was a separate stab between them” (282). Maycomb is an injustice town because as every time the Jury said “guilty” it negatively affected Jem like he was being stab inside which illustrates how he was very confident in knowing that Tom will be acquitted & be found innocent but, after the verdict it had made realizes & lose hope on the members of his community.
Most authors write about characters that can be related to by the reader. To make readers able to connect more, the author has to make the character more realistic which means giving a character a flaw. The following books, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Odyssey and Of Mice and Men, are books we focused on this year and they all represented characters with flaws that the readers were able to identify and relate to.
