Racism and Social Injustice in To Kill A Mockingbird
“ I think there’s just one type of folks. Folks.” Racism has existed throughout history. It can be defined as a hatred of one person to another or the belief that another person is less than human because of the color of their skin, language, or any other differences that person has. Social injustice is a situation when some unfair practices are being carried in the society. The quote “ I think there’s just one type of folks. Folks.” Relates to how scout changes because in the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, racism and social injustice occurs a lot and people were judged by their color. To Kill A Mockingbird was written by Harper Lee and in this essay, it is explained how Scout, Jean Louise, has changed and matures as she grows up

The time Walter Cunningham’s comes home to eat dinner with Scout and Jem. Scout comments on Walter pouring syrup all over his food and Calpurnia scolds her for it. “Atticus shook his head at me again. But he’s gone and drowned his dinner with syrup, I protested. He’s poured it all over---It was then that Calpurnia requested my presence in the kitchen.” (page 29). This shows that not only Scout got in trouble, but also she now understands that not all people like the same stuff or do the same things. To close, Jean-Louis was changed and matured in many ways. Scout changes her perspective of people, resulting in going up against racism and social injustice by the situations she was facing, such as the Tom Robinson’s trial, Cecil Jacobs and the use of the “N” word, and Walter Cunningham’s. Even though this book is old, racism and social injustice still occur today. In fact, the new president, Trump, is making it worst. No matter your social status or how powerful you feel you are, we are all equal. We came here by birth and we leave here by
