To kill a mockingbird in set in the town of Maycomb, Alabama. It is set in the middle of the Great Depression in the 1929 to 1939, and was the worst economic downturn in the history of the industrialized world. It began after the stock market crashed in October 1929, which sent Wall Street into a panic and wiped out millions of investors. Scout Finch is a six-year-old girl who lives with her older brother Jem and her widowed father Atticus. Atticus is a lawyer and works hard enough to support his family, but he works long hours. They have a black cook, Calpurnia and she helps to raise the kids. Scout and Jem spend most of their days playing. A boy younger then Scout, Dill spend his summer with his aunt, who lives next to the finches The three children, Scout, Dill and Jem quickly became friends because they spent a lot of time together. They became curious about the nearby house. There lived a man Nathan Radley and his brother Boo Radley. The children were interested and scared of Boo Radley.
