Tom is a gentleman and passionate. Some see Tom as a good man while others as a negro man. I characterized Tom as a gentleman because he would help Mayella with work anytime she would ask him. He said it looked like no one would help her so he was polite enough too. Tom didn’t want to get in trouble by being over there so he was scared. Wanted to leave but she Mayella wouldn’t let him leave. He also said he didn’t want to be ugly or push her out of the way. Tom ran away once he left because he was scared but it also showed a sign of guilt. He also had really good manners. He was respectful and he wouldn’t go up onto somebody’s yard of his own volition.
