The Parents Are To Blame In the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet by WIlliam Shakespear, Romeo and Juliet died for their love. But who is really to blame? Lord and Lady Capulet. They are the most to blame for the horrible events that happened in Romeo and Juliet. They forced Juliet into marrying Paris at such a young age when she hardly knew him. They were also the main people that kept the feud between the two families going, and they were the ones that rescheduled the wedding day of Juliet and Paris. First of all, when Paris asks Lord Capulet if he could marry Juliet she was only 13 years old, while Paris is suspected to be much much older. After the balcony scene where Romeo and Juliet meet once more, Lady Capulet comes into her room to tell Juliet the news that I think was the biggest cause for the suicides. She said “ Marry, my child, early next Thursday morn, The gallant, young, and noble gentleman, The County Paris, at Saint Peter’s Church, Shall happily make thee there a joyful bride”(Act 3 Scene 5 117-120). Lady Capulet is telling Juliet that she must get married to Paris as a joyful bride on that Thursday morning. Juliet becomes enraged and swears by the church that Paris will not make her happy. She expressed confusion on why everything was moving so fast. Then she drops the bomb on her mother by telling her that the only boy that will make her happy is Romeo, a Montegue. When Lord Capulet hears about this he is furious. He tells Juliet that she has no choice but to marry Count Paris. He tells her that she is worthless and that he wished that they never gave birth to such a shameful horrible daughter like her. He also says that if Juliet does not marry Paris he will disown her and throw her out on the streets to starve. This hurts Juliet and makes her long for Romeo's love even more than before. Now that the date of the wedding was moved to be earlier it ruins Friar Laurence's plans and affects the letter getting to Romeo on time. This causes Romeo to think that Juliet is actually dead in the Capulet tomb instead of knowing that
