World War I was the result of internal conflict in Germany. In the decades leading up to the war there was many instances of disregarding political opinions that did not follow conservative ideals that Bismarck believed. From the beginning of united Germany it was done with political manipulation and careful orchestrating of a war that would bring about the desired outcome of a united Germany. The governmental system that ran the united Germany was completely biased against any decision that Bismarck or Prussia did not approve. The class conflict was attempted to be resolved with providing jobs and potentially increasing the wealth of the country, but it did the opposite. More jobs were not going to solve this problem a war was needed, but Bismarck was not around to orchestrate it like during the seven weeks war. …show more content…

The unification was one way of increasing political power against the liberals, while the liberals did want unity (Scheck 13). They did not want it in the way that it came about. Unity of the Germanic people would enable the people to work together to demand more rights, but the system that arose did not give them this opportunity. Bismarck wanted to exert Prussian rule over the other Germanic states and remove Austria as competition for power. The seven weeks war was what forced together the German Confederation. It was a war fought between Prussia and Austria; the smaller states were forced to choose sides. Many of the smaller states sided with Austria, but Prussia won and was able to force the many smaller states to consolidate the states into on Germanic Confederation.
