In To Kill a Mockingbird by harper Lee, despite of him having a public trial, Tom Robinson, an innocent man was proven guilty, also his trial that was completely and utterly unfair, one-sided, and even discriminatory. This novel takes place in Maycomb, Alabama, a made up town. Robinson was working for the Ewell’s and one day Tom was invited into the house to fix a door. Tom Robinson was accused of raping and abusing a white woman, Mayella Ewell, when her father is the one who abused her. The jury had a lack of evidence to prove that Tom was guilty, and also ignored the evidence that proves his innocence.
In a small town in Maycomb, Alabama, there was a rape trial where a lawyer named Atticus defended Tom Robinson, a black man. Mayella Ewell was the woman who claimed she was raped and Bob Ewell was her father. In the end, Tom Robinson was convicted of rape and was shot and killed when he tried to escape prison. Even though Tom Robinson was convicted, Bob Ewell was still bitter toward Atticus because he defended Tom To get back at Atticus, Bob Ewell attacked Jem and Scout and tried to kill them. Bob did not succeed at hurting the children because Arthur Radley saved them and killed Bob Ewell by stabbing him with his own knife.
I believe Tom Robinson is innocent in raping Mayella Ewell.a strong hard working black guy is being accused of seducing mayella ewell. Mayella is a white young girl. She lives with her father. She is 19 years old. Bob Ewell drinks and abuses Mayella.
The prison is a dreary and dark place, Tom knew that he couldn’t stay there. He attempted to escape the prison but was shot 17 times as he attempted to climb the fence during his exercise period. Tom Robinson passed away. If the Ewell’s had some form of heart and dignity they wouldn’t have pursued Tom in court. Mayella and Bob have theoretically ended the life of Tom
Hello Mr. Underwood, I am a relative of the Cunninghams and was indeed a jury member in the Mayella Ewell vs. Tom Robinson case. While I was on the jury, it was the night after I tried to kill Mr. Tom Robinson with my family. That gave me an interesting perspective on the case, and that is why I am writing to you today. Miss Jean Louise Finch first gave me the idea that night. We are all humans and all our instincts should be of humans, which means not having prejudice.
The case of Tom Robinson in Harper Lee's novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" has been a subject of debate. While some believe that Tom Robinson is guilty of the crime he was accused of, there is strong evidence to prove that he is not guilty. There is no evidence of Tom doing anything, the evidence from Mayella could not have been true and Tom did not have a fair trial. Firstly, the evidence against Tom Robinson is circumstantial and lacks any real proof of his guilt.
Tom Robinson was put on trial on August 26th, 1935 for the raping of Mayella Violet Ewell and was found guilty not much longer after that. The crime, November 21st, 1934, has two different views- the Ewell’s and then Tom’s. I, Jem Atticus Finch, believe Tom Robinson is not guilty for numerous reasons. My dad, Atticus Finch was the defendant of Tom Robinson and I too wish to defend him. I’m a twelve year old boy living in Maycomb County with my Aunt, father, and sister.
In a society like Maycomb’s, rude and distrustful white people, like Bob Ewell, could easily have an advantage over African Americans simply because of the way the social pyramid is laid out. On page 101, Atticus and Scout discussed the future of the case, “‘Atticus, are we going to win it?’ ‘No, honey.’” The fact that Atticus was actually positive that he would not win the case, shows that the society truly believed that Tom Robinson actually raped Mayella Ewell, even without any information or evidence.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the story is set in the 1900’s, Maycomb, Alabama. During this time there was racism in the south and segregation which separated the whites and blacks from everything. There was also the Great Depression, the whole country was poor and people living in the country had to trade and do other jobs for people to either pay them off or to buy something from them. The trial in this book is about Mayella and Bob Ewell, two white people, claiming and arguing that Tom Robinson, a black person, raped Mayella Ewell. This trial is really important because at that time in the south, white people took advantage of black people and their kindness and thought they would take that or shut up just because they were black.
Tom was accused of raping a white woman who was Mayella Ewell, Mayella said he raped her while he was helping her with chores. She later on tells the readers that it was false allegations. The reason why she didn 't tell the truth at her first trial was because, Mayella was afraid of being embarrassed because she kissed a black male. She rather have an innocent man get charged with a crime than that. “However, Robinson was transferred from the state prison to Maycomb 's county jail on Saturday, two days before he stood trial on Monday, and Atticus had to defend him against a lynch mob”.
In South Alabama during the Great Depression, a young black man was accused of rape by very poor and uneducated family. The Ewells who accused Tom was despised all through Maycomb. Everyone knew that they were lying, but Tom Robinson was still convicted and eventually shot after trying to run away from prison. In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, when Tom died shortly after the trial, there was some grief through Maycomb County, including Helen, his wife.
In this paragraph I will be questioning the Ewells’ reasoning for lying. While reading the court scenes, I got the feeling that Mayella and Bob had separate motives for trying to convict Tom. There are quite a few reasons that Bob would want Tom Robinson convicted. His most demanding motive would have to be the need to cover up the fact that he abuses his children.
Even though Atticus finds evidence that Tom is innocent, the jury denies him. Justice should not be taken lightly, even if it is denied. First of all, Tom Robinson is framed of rape, when he did not commit the crime. Bob Ewell, the father of Mayella Ewell, accuses Tom that he raped Mayella. The truth was that Tom did not.
In our society, innocent people, known as mockingbirds, experience prejudice in their lives.
