Do you think that social media is affecting the way humans communicate? To agree or disagree or to be neutral, that is the question we are faced with. The topics we will be discussing are the fact that humans are glued to their phones, how social media supposedly helps us, and lastly how we survived perfectly fine without it. To begin, everyone seems to be glued to their phones, always on Facebook or Twitter. People will argue ‘I am not always on my phone.’ But as they say this they are currently posting a selfie on snap chat or Facebook. As doctor Gronde states; “Teens think they ‘get it’ — that technology is a natural extension of their social lives.” (20). But yet, what if that teen who is always on their phone is talking to a friend who is telling them not to commit suicide that night, or they are begging someone to stay alive, not to end their lives. As the article quotes; “Turkle’s descriptions of some the teens who have told her their story is downright scary. Teens believe they need to be available 24/7 to their friends, because, you know, someone might get dumped or into an argument with their parents.” (Gronde 13).
