Aiden Lilly Mrs. Moffat English 5-6 11 January 2023 Was Chris Justified? Would you ever leave everything behind and journey into the wilderness? In Jon Krakauer’s book Into The Wilderness, Chris McCandless leaves his family without saying anything and goes into the wild. He let go of all his belongings and burnt all his money. Chris McCandless was justified in leaving his family without a trace because he was trying to find himself, he grew up in domestic abuse, and he can make his own decisions. Chris wanted to live his life and find who he really is. He wasn’t becoming who he wanted to be. He was super smart, athletic, and went to a good college. His family had a lot of money and he did not care for money at all. He wanted his own life. According to the book, “No longer would he answer to ChrisMcCandless; he was now Alexander Supertramp, master of his own destiny” (pg. 23). He did not want to be with his parents at all because it wasn’t safe. His father tried to cover up having a double life with his first wife. He went back and forth between houses; he had two different families. In the book, it says, “And then, once the time is right, with one abrupt, swift action I’m going to completely knock them out of my life. I’m going to divorce them as my parents once and for all and never speak to either of those idiots again as long as I live” (pg. 64). He did not want to be around his parents anymore.
