It was difficult to agree on any conflict because Americans were on two completely different sides of the story. When this problem was noticed Henry Clay tried to give peace to the United States, unfortunately, his compromise only worked temporarily. Before the Compromise of 1850, the U.S. had just had a war with Mexico, and the slave controversy was getting more and more out of hand. The Free states, who have high industry income, do not think slavery is right and want it abolished. The Slave states want slaves, because of the amount of agriculture they have; they need people to do the work. Both have different opinions; making it hard for a once united country to agree on situations when it is split in two. The Free and Slave states were …show more content…
Most issues start before they even get addressed, usually because they keep on growing into bigger conflicts. For example the Civil War, but that is after 1850 (Pearson). Events before 1850 included the Louisiana Purchase, the Missouri Compromise, and the Mexican-American War (Pearson). In the present time of the 1850s, there was a "war" of tension between the Free and Slave states. The main issue was the fact that at any time both sides could start a war with each other, but the government wanted to keep everyone peaceful. It sounds a lot similar to the Compromise of 1850, 30 years after the Missouri Compromise. Another event that is similar to the Compromise of 1850 is the Democratic and Republicans parties in today's society. America has split into two sides again, with people having different strong opinions. This situation is more mild, with everyone mixed together living in mostly peace. It is good to have different opinions in a democracy, to get every viewpoint in law-making, voting, and presidencies. Seeing as this Compromise is so close to today's conflicts, every event in history has a forever lasting
