Was The Treaty Of Versailles Fair?
The Treaty of Versailles was unfair and it was unfair for various reasons that America did not agree with during the signing. European countries involved in the war think it was fair but the U.S. thinks it was more personnel than practical. The allies had different ideas on some of the articles. The Treaty of Versailles was everything but fair. Three of the reasons it was unfair are the military, loss of property, and blame.
Germany lost lots of property and land to France. They took over more so for revenge. Germany not only loss enormous amounts of land but along with that came loss of food and crops. They also loss coalmines. The food loss did more than anticipated. Germany’s whole community went hungry from such a drastic shortage in their food supply. “Germany cedes to France in all and absolute possession.” (Article 45 in the Treaty of Versailles) Also, showing they were left with pretty much nothing.
Germany’s military could not have more than 100,000 people in their army. While Russia had, five million and France had 4 million. Therefore, showing that their armed forces were reduced tremendously. The German Navy allowed 15,000 men and 6 battleships. Their use and production on weaponry was also limited.
