In chapter 9 of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom and Huck witnessed the murder of Dr. Robinson and made the decision not to reveal Injun Joe as the murderer. However, Tom and Huck should have told the authorities the truth about the murder. When Dr. Robinson was murdered, Muff Potter was passed out so Injun Joe was able to convince him that he was the murderer. In chapter 11, Tom began to feel guilty and regret his decision. He had nightmares every night about the murder and sometimes he had dreams that he did it. He even began to visit Muff Potter in jail in order to help relieve his guilty conscience.
