One of the most overlooked, yet integral inventions of the Second Industrial Revolution was that of the cash register by James Ritty. This invention may not have been as flashy or exciting as others of that era, but the invention of the cash register revolutionized the restaurant and retail businesses forever. A simple bar owner from Dayton, Ohio had a huge impact of the commercialization of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Today, people can still experience the effects of Ritty’s invention every time they purchase food at the grocery store or buy clothes at the mall. James Ritty was born into a family of five children.

Jim Valvano was a man who lived by that quote and never gave up even though he passed away, he did not ever give up and that is why he had a positive impact. Some of the reasons Jim Valvano had a positive impact is that he started a whole charity funded by espn that has had more than 150 million dollars donated to it, he also helped motivate others to do better things with their time on earth, and finally he just gave people so much hope and inspired people with his story. When Jim Valvano was sick with cancer, he started a charity that was funded by espn, and was named the Jimmy V cancer foundation. The foundation has grown to the point that it is sponsored all through February on all espn networks.
Joseph Ritner (1835-1839) Joseph Ritner was an American politician and farmer who served as the Governor of Pennsylvania from 1835 to 1839. Born in Berks County, Pennsylvania, in 1780, Ritner worked as a farmer for most of his life before entering politics. He served in the Pennsylvania state legislature for several years before being elected as governor in 1835. During his tenure as governor, Ritner focused on promoting economic development, particularly in the areas of agriculture and manufacturing.
His father was, a farmer, landowner, a legislator, an anti-Federalist political activist, and a slave owner. He later attended Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, after graduating he attended Law school, also in Connecticut. (Niven J)(Rafuse). In Law school he was the under study of an opinionated follower of a strong federal government named Tapping Reeve.

After Richard graduated, he attended Fullerton Union High School. Richard’s parents switched Richard to Whittier High in his junior year of secondary school. Richard later graduated from Whittier High third in his class of 207 students. Richard was offered a tuition grant to attend Harvard University, although his brother was still very sick and his mother needed to care for him. Richard then had to work at his mother’s store.
Introduction: Duke Ellington was a pioneer in the jazz movement, and helped turn what was considered shoddy dance music into an acclaimed art form. After that he attended the University of Notre Dame, which is still here today. He didn’t stop there. He also attended the University of New York and the University of Oregon. So he was definitely an educated man. He wasn’t always a writer though, he was also a landscape photographer until 1981.
During his child hood he moved around quite often due to the fact that his father’s job required frequent travel. JC attended boarding schools and received an education. He eventually graduated Harvard with a Masters in Business Administration. He married and had two children. He worked in the advertising field for thirty-five years having been a CEO for one of the two agencies he worked for.
