To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee, is a metaphor that means “to hurt someone who has done no wrong.” In the book there are lots of characters who represent a mockingbird, the one who symbolised the mockingbird the most was Tom Robinson. A mockingbird is a harmless, innocent person.Their purpose is to sing their hearts out for our own enjoyment. Meaning the mockingbird only does good for others. Tom is a man of character who stated that he often helped Mayella Ewell. He went out of his way for others but was a victim of of racism and was characterized by what the people in Maycomb said and thought of him Tom Robinson passed by Mayella’s house everyday to and from Mr. Link Deas field. Boo sees Scout and Jem as his children. Boo has watched the kids grow up over the years. He's sorta laid back and comes in with his “children” need him. At the beginning of the book Boo has already been characterized as someone he's not. More towards the middle he starts to show up more but still is out of everyone's way. Jems paints were caught on a fence & ripped down the seams. Boo takes the pants and sews them back together, without Jem knowing who did it. Although, it wasn't the cleanest sewing job, he did a kind favor for someone else. In addition, when Mrs. Maudie’s house caught on fire Scout was standing outside, it was a little chilly. Boo comes up behind her wraps a blanket around her shoulders & just leaves without her seeing him or him saying anything to her. These examples of Boo show great innocence of him. Not very often did a black man feel sorry for a white girl/guy, it wasn't proper those days deep in the south. She offered him a nickel for helping, but he was glad to help her out. Being the mockingbird he was he didn't accept money for the jobs he did for Mayella even though he was poor himself and probably needed the money, he turned it down. “...I knowed she didn't have no nickel to spare” (Lee 256). .Even doing jobs for her before everything happened shows great
