The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a novel written by, Mark Twain in 1876. This story is about a young boy growing up along the Mississippi River. It takes place in a fictional town named St. Petersburg, Missouri. “Now as to this girl. What had he done? Nothing. He had meant the best in the world and been treated like a dog -- like a very dog. She would be sorry some day -- maybe when it was too late. Ah, if he could only die temporarily!” (chapter 8 paragraph 1). In this quote, Tom had done something nice to a girl, but she treated him like a dog. Tom is also thinking that someday she will be attritional she treated him that way, but it will probably be too late. He is wishing he could temporarily die so that she will be attritional sooner and he will maybe forgive her. “He no longer took an interest in war, nor even in piracy. Tom is very clever at manipulating people. He makes them think that something is very fun to do, but really he is just trying to get you to do his work for him so he can go and play instead of doing his work. I have done this many times in my life to my little sister. I tell her that is she does some of my chores I will give her something, but really I just give her a little toy. Then she complains that I tricked her, then she tells my parents. So then they get mad at me so I just get in trouble.
