Do you ever wonder how lucky you are to live peacefully in a free country? Most of us take it for granted and even if it’s brought to our attention, we tend to not worry about it and go on with our lives. The only people that know the true value of freedom are the families of soldiers, especially the fallen soldiers. They had witnessed the ultimate sacrifice their loved ones had made for their country. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a place that represents the loss and mourning of many families. It’s a memorial dedicated to all unknown service members, who not only gave their lives, but also their identities to protect our freedom. It also symbolizes our country’s promise to never forget, and that’s why it is one of the most honored and respected monuments. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a monument at the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC. It’s a sarcophagus made out of white marble that has an inscription on the back of it that says: “Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God.” The east side of the sarcophagus has a sculpture of three Greek figures representing Victory, Valor and Peace. There are also six wreaths on its sides, three on each, that depict the six major campaigns of World War I. …show more content…

Quite a few of them called it a “life changing event.” I truly believe that being just able to watch it would be a moving experience, but being able to participate in it would be a call to action. I may not understand many things going on in the world today, but I am old enough to know that there is way too much violence, hatred and bigotry. There are so many unnecessary lives lost and it seems like freedom and peace are being taken for granted. I hope I will have the life altering honor of placing the wreath on the tomb to never forget the lives lost, so I can be
