Adapting book to film can be very hard, will it either be a triumph or a desecration of this national treasure. Tomorrow When the War Began, written by John Marsden is a very popular Young Adult novel that has been Adapted to the Big Screen. the most important aspects to create a great film are getting the theme, casting and setting correct when adapting a novel.
In this book/ Film the main themes are war, change and friendships. Tomorrow When The War Began is all about Australia being invaded and a new war starting.. In both the book and the movie it focuses on the invasion and how these teenagers deal with the change in their world and in themselves and how they stick together (friendship).
The plot of the movie was pretty close to the book, sticking very close to the story line without leaving out anything major or any weird additions. It does leave out some subplots and details, like the story about the Hermit who used to live in hell. I think that because the setting in the book and film are the same people do like it better than what it would be if they changed the setting or Wirrawee and Hell. And because the movie was made a while after the book having it in the digital age was a smart idea for the movie, because kids wouldn’t we wanting to write it down, having the camera was a good idea. All of the choice’s that were made into adapting this book in relation to the setting was all done very well for the big screen making it successful and not a desecration of the
