Tim Ferris had a podcast going on for the past couple of years where he invited some of the most successful people; after some time, Tim Ferris decided to compile only most important information from his podcast into Tools of Titans. In the book Tim Ferris notes that a large majority of those who he interviewed have some form of meditation which they practice daily. While there are many types of meditation, many include thinking deeply and focusing on something for a period of time. David Deida states in “The Way of the Superior Man”, “As long as life continues, the creative challenge is to tussle, play, and make love with the present moment” (14). David mentions the importance of being grounded in the present moment. Once letting go of all your stresses and anxieties, the only thing to do is to observe what is occurring in the present moment. When grounded in the present moment one will start to react less to other individuals and situations. Emotions are a normal part of the human experience, but rarely do we have control over them. Meditation brings about many physiological positive changes in the brain. McGonigal refered to a study in which “meditators showed a larger brain response in areas important for processing physical sensations and for emotional responding” (5). This state of being nonreactive will give an individual the skill to be able to detach oneself from a situation, which will provide better courses of actions to take in an event. In an article Manish Chopra explains “I was aware that my own negativity hadn't been magically removed from me by meditation, but I was able to respond in a more neutral manner and not allow myself or others to be consumed by it” after losing to a rival bid ("Want To Be A Better Leader? Observe More And React Less"). He later goes on to say that they must have been better and that they would be well-qualified partners to help him with another assignment. By detaching himself from the situation, and acknowledging his anger, he was able to see that the best course of action was to also acknowledge that they were well-qualified and that he should work with him.
