Abstract Is social networking essential for independent record labels such as Top Dawg Entertainment to survive? Record labels are constantly changing over the years. The way they function and the deals they make, that is why finding the right record label deals becoming more of a challenge for young artists today. Another problem which is one of the most current is artists going into the music industry only for the money they can earn and not because of their passion and love for the art and music. Many artists have claimed that this is holding back the music industry true potential. How has social media had an impact on the music industry today? The internet is slowly but constantly integrating itself into the music industry and soon it will become the biggest tool that artists and record labels will rely on. New music can now be more easily discovered not just by radio but also thanks to social medias such as YouTube Spotify and Sound-cloud all uniting music lovers and making easier to discover new talent.
