Taylor names the baby girl Turtle, and when her car breaks down in Tucson, and she can’t afford to fix it, she decides to live there, renting from a recently divorced mom named Lou Ann. The Bean Trees is beautiful book about Taylor trying her best to raise Turtle despite the challenges presented. Francie Nolan, the main character of the novel, is faced with the greatest difficulty of them all: growing up. Poverty was one aspect of Francie’s life that caused her to lack certain fundamental features of a regular child’s life. This is shown through Francie consistently being without food due to poverty, and having to discover for herself in a very difficult way that hunger was a painfully real issue.

With the introduction of lean manufacturing into the production process, the management was able to gauge the advantages lean manufacturing brought into the day to day activities when it was implemented for single production line. The benefit of single production line with duplicate resources is that idle equipment could be undergoing a setup for the next product while another product is running. This configuration mitigates flow line downtime that would result from a high product mix because it can drive the need for many different machine setup time iterations. A single line configuration would simplify production line leadership’s responsibilities, staffing level needs would be better understood, preventive maintenance could be done while products are running and this configuration would promote a balanced or equal use approach to equipment utilization.

The "limited" and "broken" English Amy Tan 's mother speaks is similar to the one my parents are most familiar with. Tan’s childhood experiences resemble my personal experiences in which, I would assist my parents in situations alike. Tan found herself speaking on the phone pretending to be her own mother; keeping her mother from going through embarrassment and bad customer service. Similarly, when my parents found themselves conversing with a representative from customer service, I would translate and attempt to clarify any miscommunications that could potentially lead to misunderstandings and/or incidents. Unfortunately, because I was too young and naive towards the language, I wasn 't much help.

The journalist, Ade Coker, makes comment that the children are "always so quiet". The children, having been brought up this way, for one, lie to Papa about his factory's new drink saying they like it, even when they do not.
