So what about this film makes the audience eager to see it again? Well, there are many aspects that contribute to that. Other than the meaning behind the story, the audience can put themselves into Dorothy’s shoes, as everyone has felt ignored by others to the point that they are forced to take matters into their own hands. It is also easy to understand why Dorothy would want to be somewhere else like Oz, where she immediately had friends on her side and literal power to work with. No matter what age the viewer is, they watch as a young Dorothy Gale finds out where she belongs in the wide and sometimes scary world. THis effect was rather straightforward compared to the others, yet it still worked beautifully. The special effects crew placed Margaret on a trap door and tacked the edge of her dress down around the outside. Then, as she was lowered down, the crew sent some dry ice and air up the door to inflate her dress enough to hide where her body went. During this scene, the wardrobe crew gave margaret a larger hat to give the illusion that her face was shrinking.
However, the film had some trouble while still in the making. For starters, the tin man we all know and love, Jack Haley, almost didn 't get the role. In fact, Buddy Ebsen (better known as Jed Clampett from The Beverly Hillbillies) was originally cast for the role. Ebsen even filmed a few scenes before he had a severe allergic reaction to the metal flake in the makeup. The original yellow they had on the brick path showed up as green at first. After debate on whether to leave it be or not, the crew had to repaint the road industrial yellow with new paint. The iconic blue and white dress not the colors of the outfit Judy wore. The original undershirt was pink because when they tried a white shirt it showed up to harsh on camera. The Wizard of Oz has been awarded the title of the most watched movie in america, and it is easy to see why. This movie has relatable themes of power, as well as how it shows that you have everything you need inside you to become the greatest you that you can be. The actors and cast didn’t know how strong this movie would become, yet 78 years later it is still fresh in the minds of every generation. This movie will continue to be viewed in the future for its inspiring message that you already have what it takes to do great things inside of you. You only have to look within
