Imagine living in a house where everyday you get beat up by your own father. How do you think that would affect your attitude with other people. Cole Matthews, the main character in the book Touching Spirit Bear, by Ben Mikaelsen, has this issue, and with it he lashes out on other people to take out his anger. Cole should continue with Circle Justice because he has shown signs of change in his attitude, he has realized there is more to life, and the Circle Justice is successful in rehabilitating teenagers. He also says life was empty and meaningless unless he found some meaning. Cole is also starting to trust people, he trusted Rosey to take care of him and before he decided to change I don’t think he would have. Lastly because he starts getting along with the Spirit Bear. My final reason is that Circle Justice is successful in rehabilitating teenagers. According to my research the overall juvenile arrest rates have dropped 45%. Which means that less juvenile delinquents are getting put in jail. Violent juvenile offenses decreased 49%. Lastly and most importantly, 70% of youth participants have no further contacts with the justice system. This means that the juveniles have gotten better and haven’t had to go back to the program. I understand that some people want Cole put in jail and don’t think he deserves a second chance. There is a possibility that Cole could successfully get away this time. Another reason is because Circle Justice has some expenses, like the supplies, and the gas to get the boat out there every so often. Cole could also go through Circle Justice and still not change his ways. Cole also broke his contract with the Circle. All of these are why people are opposing to accept him back into the
