The name Tough Little Boys, a country song by Gary Allan, sends a message to those who are going to listen to it, that this is about how boys or any males should act. The automatic assumption just seeing the title of this song is that it is going to tell boys they must be tough. Although once actually listening to the song one realizes that it is, in fact, talking about how males should act, but it isn’t strictly talking about how a man should be tough. It is actually highlighting a very emotional part of a man’s life and it is celebrating it. The overall message that Gary Allan is trying to send his listeners is that that men should still be tough and strong, but they must also have a soft spot for their children. Well, this song does highlight some emotional and typically feminine aspect a man have, it should be ignored that some pretty strong stereotypical masculine messages are also being portrayed through this song. The very first line of the song “well I never once back down from a punch” automatically plays into the idea that men are violent. It portrays the idea that men must never back down from physical altercations or they could be seen as less than a man. You should be sexual empowered and feel you have the right to express your body in whatever way you want, to me that is a good thing. At the same time, you should not just be using your body and not you mind to get attention and recognition. When you just use your body, and not your mind, it stops being empowering and starts being objectification. Although as long as the actions someone is doing for themselves, and not for any other agenda, I would consider that
