Why do men feel the need to conform with toxic masculinity in American society? In American society, people tend to notice that there is a stigma surrounding the fact that men thrive off another man’s approval, being aggressive towards women, men concealing their emotions, and marginalizing certain groups. Toxic masculinity is an ever growing problem in America and can affect others around them. For example, fights and excessive drinking that are usually presented by males. Even the American Psychological Association (APA) has deemed traditional masculinity as dominant, aggressive, competitive and stoic. Men who interact in this certain way are less likely to engage in positive behaviors. Toxic masculinity is a behavior that men present by not showing weakness, show violence, and avert from typical norms that are deemed for women. Toxic masculinity affects men in America because of their environment and ideas depicted in the media. Toxic masculinity usually starts with the male teens and can affect them for the rest of their lives. I have seen it damage others and men themselves. Most of the problems you see in the media are done by men and the typical approval they seek from other men. Toxic masculinity has always interested me because I have wanted to know the root of this constant growing problem. Even though I am not a male, It has affected me. I have always been an onlooker to this problem but have never bothered to look into the different facets that have an affect on toxic masculinity.
