There is a Chip in the System
You’re so happy because it’s Friday and you have plans to go over to your best friend’s house. You hear the bell ring and run to your bus. You get home and pack your bag and start walking to their house. But what you don’t know is that your school knows exactly where you are because, they have a chip in your school ID card. Schools should not put tracking chips in student IDs because the chips cost too much money, it violates freedom, and it is not the school’s job to know where the kids are at all times.
Parents do not want their children to be spied on by the school for the school’s benefits. For example the Student Resources says, “A lawsuit filed against a Pennsylvania school district that accuses officials of using laptop webcams to spy on students at home is prompting educators across the country to re-examine where protecting school computer property ends and invading student’s privacy begins” (Student Resources 10). Kennedy states that one school says, “A security camera silently records digital images of hallway comings and goings; a smart ID card in a student's pocket enables the school to take attendance and deduct the cost of a cafeteria lunch” (Kennedy). This school says that it helps them keep better track of their kids, but most kids don’t keep their cards on them. For example, student resources says, “Harriton High School student Blake Robbins filed a federal lawsuit after he says Vice Principal Lynn Matsko used photographs taken from a webcam to talk to him about improper behavior at home” (Student Resources 10). This shows that parents don’t want their kids tracked or recorded to keep an eye on the kids. For these reasons kids should not be required to have a chip in their ID card.The schools should not be able to tell students what the have to have if they do not want
