In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the playwrite implies that people need to think their actions through before persuing them, and that failure to do so can result in tradgedy. Shakespeare shows that when characters especially men make rash, and emotion driven disicions that it can lead to trouble. In the first scene Sampson decides to pick a fight with the Montague’s just for the heck of it. “Nay, as they dare. I will bite my thumb at them, which is disgrace to them if they bear it.” (1.1, 43-43) In their time bitting ones thumb equivilant to flipping someone off. Sampson despises the Montague’s so much that as one walks by he decides to bite his thumb and practically asks the Montague worker to start a fight.This fight is very bloody, …show more content…

In Act two when Romeo disapears after the party Benvolio and Mercutio go to look for him and Mercutio yells looking for him many harsh and exagerated things about Romeo. “If love be blind, love cannot hit the mark./ Now will he sit under a medlar tree/ And wish his mistress were that kind of fruit/ As maids call medlars when they laugh alone.— /O Romeo, that she were,/ O, that she were An open-arse, thou a pop’rin pear./ Romeo, good night. I’ll to my truckle bed;/ This field-bed is too cold for me to sleep.—/ Come, shall we go?”(2.2, 36-44) He is talking about Romeo running off to have sex with Rosaline. After this blurt Benvolio finally tells Mercutio to stop teasing him and that they should go. This just makes Romeo shrug because he doesn’t even care about Rosaline any more. Mercutio just blurts and teases whatever pleases him without stopping to consider who is listening or how people may feel. Mercutio’s constant thoughtless babbling makes him seem mentally unstable, not trustworthy, and unintelligent. When Romeo even mentions haveing a thought enduced by a dream Mercutio goes on a several minute rant about “Queen Mab”, the evil fairy lady that put dreams in mens’ heads. This Monologue is early on in the audiences meeting of Mercutio so this big, long, somewhat upset rant about a fairy that rides in a hazelnut carriage can make the audience think that Mercutio is a bit crazy. In Mercutio’s case his words don’t quite elad to tradgedy but it shows how if people do not think before they speak that they will not be respected as much as those who
