The main theme of the lottery is power of tradition. In this story they talk about how they have done the lottery for years. The oldest man in the town said he has been doing the lottery of “77 years”. It is very hard to break tradition. Tradition can change a little. For instance they once used to use bark instead of paper. Other towns have dropped the lottery but this town has kept it going because they fear that the crops won’t be good and the lottery all is they know of. Some of the people in the story like Mr. Adams wants to get rid if the lottery but some people don’t. In the story and the movie the people all drew papers and the hutchinson family was the one that got the dot paper. Another similarity is the that they use the same characters. Sometime movie they add or take out some of the characters and in this they used the same characters. If they would have choose to use different ones I would have changed the plot of the movie it is very important in this particular story. The third similarity is that they used the same quote “The lottery in june the corn be heavy soon. In the story if they didn’t have that quote the reader would have a hard time understanding what the article is about. The townspeople do the lottery because they think that the season will be a good
