With Training Camp on the horizon, there are plenty of things to watch out for with the Detroit Red Wings. The team will be starting a new era under their new head coach Jeff Blashill, the new acquisitions of Mike Green and Brand Richards, and a lot of optimism around the team. One of the many things to talk about come training camp is always the development of younger players and prospects. Detroit for the last few years has had one of the strongest farm systems in the NHL/AHL and this year is none different. This year Detroit could see one or two prospects actually make the team from Grand Rapids. Last year he spent significant time with the team and had some solid games which earned him playing time in the Playoffs. Marchenko is a defenseman who can move the puck pretty well, strong defensively, and a pretty good skater. He also comes with size that Detroit needs at that position (6’3 210 lb) but with the signing of Mike Green, there’s no real room for him to come up right away. That doesn’t stop him from being one of the top prospects to watch. Alexey has too many tools to be held down in Grand Rapids for long. Teemu Pulkkinen- Teemu is another player who spent some good time in Detroit last season as well. He spent most of the season as the leader in goals in the AHL while playing in the NHL. Pulkkinen possess a big shot that wows a lot of people but at the same times he has a slow to get to that shot. Another downside is that he has to clear waivers in order to go to Grand Rapids so that makes things tricky. If anything Pulkkinen will be on the main roster and with Blashill at the helm, I can see him being used to his full
