Transportation in the 1920s
The 1920s was a very impactful decade on our society. For big major events, the Great Depression started in the late 1920s and there were many new amendments ratified such as the nineteenth. However, one of the biggest and most impactful events and achievements was how greatly transportation was advanced. There were many different forms of transportation, some being more prominent and used in comparison to others. As we neared the mid to later 1920s, automobiles became both more widely available and cheaper for people to buy. This was mostly due to how the production process of these cars were being sped up and they kept figuring out ways to make them cheaper and cheaper. During this time, the most common automobile families had was the Model T Ford even though there were tons of different cars on the market. The majority of people had this as it was the cheapest, due to how Henry Ford was able to create a more efficient product assembly line in comparison to all of his competitors. His price for the Model T started out at $850, but eventually went down to only $300 towards the mid 1920s. As the later 1920s came, people were able to buy used Model T for as cheap as five dollars, and brand new ones for not a ton more. The automobiles introduced a new form of transportation, as people could go anywhere whenever they wanted and did not have to wait for the specific time a train was going to arrive. As a result, there were over 23 million automobiles owned by people in 1929. The growth of automobiles also caused changes in other things, such as the expansion of roads and the need for more oil. Roads started becoming more developed in towns and more stores and restaurants were opened next to them.
