Frankie (Howard) Beverly is one name that everyone in the household is likely to know. He's toured the world and his music has been sampled hundreds of times, although his style can not be duplicated or imitated. Frankie started out as most do by singing the gospel on Sunday mornings in a Philly church house. It wasn't until later that he would sing professionally with the Silhouettes. The Silhouettes had a hit back in 1958 with “Get a Job.” He was just 12 years old when this happened. Now, without the group's testimony, this could be just rumors, but actually with his fame today... who cares if they would deny it or admit it. The group went through yet another name change and they were now known as Raw Soul. Raw Soul peeped the interest of Marvin Gaye's sister-in-law. Through her influence and their talent, the group opened for Marvin and it was Gaye who convinced Frankie to change the group's name to Maze. However, it was Larkin Arnold who signed the soulful group to Capitol Records and this began the career and the sounds we know to be only Frankie Beverly and Maze! Beverly would incorporate all of the right stuff from previous efforts with Raw Soul, the Butlers and add a few new members to the family. It wasn't long after this that Frankie Beverly and Maze blew up in a major way. Thank you, Larkin Arnold! In time, and over in the UK, Frankie Beverly and Maze grew large. However, everybody's favorite is what made #57 on the charts in the UK at the time and that song is “Joy and Pain.” Other hits include “Golden Time of Day,” “We are One,” “Can't Stop the Love,” “The Morning After,” “Before I Let Go,” “Happy Feelings,” “Southern Girl” and “Silky Soul.” In 2012, Frankie received the Lifetime Achievement Award during the BET Awards show.
