I meant to say “people incapable of taking different opinions.” Despite trying to be a little bit more politically correct, someone could be way more offended by the clarification than the initial name-calling. Unfortunately, most conversations on touchy topics ends up with two people treading on thin ice nowadays. Speakers glide like figure skaters around hot topics that require debate. Of course, society needs certain etiquette to remain civil. However, other etiquettes can quickly become constrictive. They inhibit open thinking, hinder free speaking, and stunt quick learning. Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges and was freed. Outraged by the court decision, black families started the #BlackLivesMatter movement. This movement protests violence against black people. In an iconic image, Jajuan Kelley, a black teen, covers his mouth with a Skittles wrapper, the candy Trayvon was carrying when he was shot. Although this act represented solidarity amongst black people, this image shows this generation’s fear of racial discussion. We cover our mouths dreading to offend people of different races.
