The french and Indian war alter the political and ideological relations between Great Britain and the american colonies in many different ways. The war enable Britain to be more involved with colonial political and economic affairs. After the war Britain also ended their policy of salutary neglect. After a while their plan to make money of the colonies soon lead to the revolutionary war because it increased tension and outrage among the american colonies.
Around the year 1776, important Englishmen in the colonies discovered that they could use the development from creating a country, the United States of America, they could control the land, profits, and take the power from people in favor of the British Empire. In addition they could hold back potential rebellions and
The Treaty of Paris signed in 1783, officially established America’s independence from England. Inexperienced soldiers, mostly farmers, had defeated the strongest army in the world, but this was not luck or coincidence. These colonists were angry and willing to give up everything to earn their freedom from the British. Britain helped protect the American colonies during the French and Indian war, but it created a huge war debt in England. King George III decided to place many high taxes on the colonies to pay for the debt, which turned him into a tyrant, a cruel and oppressive ruler, in the eyes of his own colonists.
The American Revolution The French and Indian War impacted the American Revolution in many ways. Britain incurred a large debt from the cost of the war and the taxes that they imposed on the colonists created feelings of anger and rebellion that led to the revolution. As a result of the French and Indian war, the British were not at full strength which allowed the actions of the colonists to be more effective. Because of the outcome of the war, France was willing to help the colonists. Without the much needed help from the French the colonist may have never won the war.
Treaty of Paris 1783 In April 1782, representatives of the thirteen colonies Benjamin Franklin and John Adams left for Paris, France. They were to meet Richard Oswald a man representing Great Britain. They were joined by others to negotiate a deal that would end the American Revolutionary War against England. The talks would consist of Britain acknowledging the United States of America as a sovereign land.
Introduction The Treaty of Paris (1783) is a document that was used by the United States to Gain its sovereignty/independence from Great Britain. Furthermore, the treaty officially ended the revolutionary war between Great Britain and the United States. Although, the treaty itself and the negotiators of it didn’t just write the treaty for the peace between the two countries. The American negotiators of the treaty also added more articles/provisions in the treaty that mostly benefited the United States.
France decided to form an alliance with the colonists not long after the American Revolution began, helping to make the Americans stronger. The alliance with the French helped raise the colonists’ spirits and many colonists were consistently determined to gain independence from Britain. With an alliance with such a powerful country and being leaded by the amazing George Washington helped the Continental Army stay strong and keep fighting. Being right at home gave the colonists many advantages.
The French and Indian War was important to the American Revolution because the debt from the war was the reason that Parliament started taxing the colonists. Also, the French and Indian War made Britain very weak, making the colonists’ actions work a whole lot better. Since France was not happy with the outcome of their war with Britain this was a main reasons for France’s interest in helping the now Americans throughout the Revolutionary War, which was very important to the colonies’ victory. The reason why Britain started to tax the colonists was because of the debt resulting from the French and Indian War. The first tax was the the tax on sugar, which was put on the colonists to help pay off the war debt.
In 1776, Benjamin Franklin was appointed to a five-member committee that helped draft the Declaration of Independence(Franklin and the American Revolution). That same year, Congress sent him to France to try to get aid in the Revolutionary War(Franklin and the American Revolution). Benjamin Franklin had been a minister in France and helped negotiate and draft the Treaty of Paris, which was signed in 1783 and helped to end the Revolutionary War(Franklin and the American Revolution). This document helped to establish that America is a separate and equal nation. Benjamin Franklin left France in 1785 and went back to Philadelphia.
With the help of France, the Americans finally won their independence from Great Britain. In a picture, it shows the American Revolution when “France sent an estimated 12,000 soldiers and 32,000 sailors to the American war effort” (Document 4). By participating in the American Revolution, France was impacted by Enlightenment ideas because it illustrated how the men in America had much better rights and were treated fairly. In addition, the Revolution was possibly started by just 1 signed piece of paper. While discussing what caused the Revolution, Sir John Dalberg-Acton believed that “the spark that changed the thought into action was supplied by the Declaration of American Independence…”
France also played an important role in diplomatic efforts to end the war. The French government used its diplomatic channels to lobby other European powers to recognize American independence and to put pressure on Britain to negotiate a peace settlement. France also hosted peace talks between the Americans and the British, which eventually led to the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The French also sent covert operations to Britain to spy on the war plan and the tactics used.
The fact that the war took place on American soil provided the colonists the advantage of familiarity with the terrain. Unlike the British, the war saw considerable support from the American people, who unified under the idea of liberty from the English rule. However, their inability to produce firearms en masse and their dwindling financial resources still left the Americans at a tremendous disadvantage. They needed allies, and they found them in the Spanish, Dutch, and French. The Spanish and Dutch offered financial support as well as firearms, but the French quickly became an invaluable ally.
They US was looking for ways to expand and none of the British North American colonies wanted to be absorbed by it, so they joined together to defend themselves from the Americans.
“Preventing our obtaining more subsistence by cultivating of new lands, [the French] discourage our marriages, and keep our people from increasing; thus…killing thousands of our children before they are born,” wrote Benjamin Franklin. Franklin regarded the importance of expanding westward necessary for the American colonists; more land was needed for the colonists to keep growing, but the French were in their way. As the continent of North America was tossed repeatedly back and forth from the hands of the French to the hands of the British, the American colonists could not wait to devour the heavily contested lands west of the Appalachians. But through a combination of politics and economics, the colonists were not allowed easy access to those rich lands. Land was of such importance to the colonists that it caused the American Revolutionary War.
