On June 28, 1919 World War 1 officially ended when Germany and Italy, the leaders of the Axis powers, entered into the Treaty of Versailles officially surrendering and in doing so agreeing to terms that would later lead to many of the conditions that created the environment leading to World War II. The restrictions placed on both countries after The Treaty demoralized both nations who were already struggling to deal with the enormous loss of life their populations. The Treaty also limited their ability to grow their military which was a blow to their nation's pride.
